The Battle of Verdun is considered the greatest and lengthiest in world history. Never before or since has there been such a lengthy battle, involving so many men, situated on such a tiny piece of land. The battle, which lasted from the 21st of February 1916 until the 19th of December 1916 caused over an estimated 700000 casualties (dead, wounded and missing). Verdun is certainly one the most important battles in the French military history.
The visit will start by the Colonel Driant's command post in the Bois des Caures including the spot where he fell on the beginning of the German offensive in February 1916. Thence to the heart of the defense dominated by the French national cemetery and the ossuary: the evocative Bayonets trench, the destroyed village of Fleury, the fort of Douaumont and more….
